FOX19 - One week after winning its first ever Big East regular season title, top-seeded Xavier took down second seeded Creighton 8-7 to win its second Big East tournament championship in three years on Sunday.
Trailing 4-0 after two innings, Xavier rallied with 2-run homers by Rylan Bannon and Joe Gellenbeck to tie the game at 4-4 in the third inning. Daniel Rizzie, who had career day going 5-for-5 with 2 RBI's, gave the Musketeers a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning.
XU took an 8-5 lead to the ninth inning before Creighton scored two runs, but the rally came up short with two runners on when Garrett Schilling forced the BlueJays to ground out to end the game.
Xavier has won 18 of their last 20 games and now advance to the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years.
Rizzie was named Most Outstanding Player for the Big East tournament.
