Seafood Recall East coast seafood recall

Ready-to-eat smoked salmon and other seafood products that may contain the listeria bacteria have been recalled from distribution in the eastern United States. No illnesses have been reported from the products by SeaSpecialties, also known as Florida Smoked Fish Company.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says the products were mostly distributed in states along the East Coast. They were sent to wholesalers, retailers, restaurants and cruise ships.

The bacteria causes a potentially fatal disease that primarily affects pregnant women, newborns and adults with weak immune systems. Other people may suffer short-term symptoms. The recall comes after SeaSpecialties was accused by the United States earlier this month of violating health codes and distributing fish contaminated with listeria. The company has decided to settle.
