Blue Angels cancel Dayton air show appearance

DAYTON, OH (FOX19) - The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will not participate at the Vectren Dayton Air Show next weekend.

The announcement comes after an accident by one of their jets on June 2.  A Blue Angel F/A-18 crashed while taking off for a practice run two days before an airshow at the Smyrna Airport in Smyrna, Tennessee. Opposing solo Capt. Jeff Kuss did not eject and was killed in the crash.

"We are sadden by the tragic loss of Marine Captain Jeff Kuss, Blue Angel #6 in Tennessee last week," said Michael Emoff, United States Air and Trade Show Board of Trustees Chairman. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Captain Kuss' and the Blue Angel team members.

The show plans to add one attraction and tribute to Captain Jeff Kuss to the feature flying show both days.

Over 24 military aircraft will be on display at the air show on June 18 and 19.
