COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A legislative Republican spokesman says officials confronted a conservative Christian, anti-LGBT Ohio lawmaker months before his resignation to discuss allegations of extramarital conduct with men and to warn him to stay away from House staff. Ohio House GOP spokesman Brad Miller says the meeting with then-state Rep. Wes Goodman took place in early summer. Miller says it occurred after someone provided computer and cellphone screenshots suggesting Goodman "was gay and not faithful to his wife."

CINCINNATI (AP) - An Ohio man serving 30 years in prison for plotting to attack the U.S. Capitol in support of the Islamic State group wants his plea and sentence thrown out, arguing that he was mentally incompetent and was entrapped by the FBI. Christopher Lee Cornell, 23, of suburban Cincinnati recently filed his motion to vacate from a federal prison in Fairton, New Jersey. FBI agents arrested him in January 2015 after he bought guns and ammunition, allegedly to use to attack in Washington.

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Police say a narcotics detective who was shot in the face during an Ohio drug raid can't speak as he recovers from surgery but is communicating using a whiteboard. Toledo police say Detective Jason Picking's jaw was shattered when SWAT officers knocked and tried to enter a home last week and a man shot through a door. A police spokesman tells The Blade newspaper that Picking was treated in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and likely faces more surgeries.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Two alleged accomplices indicted in the slayings of a couple at their used car lot in Cleveland are accused of helping the suspected shooter, who already was charged. Cleveland.com reports that authorities accuse the newly indicted suspects of helping to rob the business in April as the victims were closing for the day. Court records listed no attorneys for the three defendants ahead of their arraignments next week on charges including aggravated murder.
