PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A lawyer for a student who was beaten at a Kentucky high school has filed a lawsuit seeking to raise awareness about bullying. Attorney Glenn Martin Hammond tells WYMT-TV that Pike County Schools are not doing enough to address bullying. He filed the lawsuit Thursday afternoon against the county Board of Education and represents a student claiming she suffered a brain injury during an attack at Pike County Central High School in October.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - In a state struggling with a surging female incarceration rate, it is inevitable that pregnant women end up in Kentucky's jails. Looking for an alternative to locking up expectant mothers, some lawmakers are pushing a bill that would set conditions to transfer some pregnant inmates into rehabilitation centers.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Republican leaders in the Kentucky state Senate say they hope to vote on a sweeping overhaul of public teacher pensions by the end of next week. Most of the savings would come from benefit cuts to current and retired teachers. The plan would cut in half the annual cost-of-living raises for retired teachers over the next 12 years, stop paying them for any unused sick days accumulated after July 1 and make changes to benefit calculations to encourage teachers to work longer.

SALUDA, S.C. (AP) - A 16-year-old girl reported missing from Kentucky two months ago has been found in South Carolina, and authorities say a suspect has been arrested in her disappearance. The Saluda County Sheriff's Office says the teen contacted her family through social media, and that led deputies to the home of 24-year-old Florencio Gomez Saiche on Feb. 20. Saiche is charged with kidnapping and first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
