Suspect at large following Middletown homicide

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - Middletown Police are looking for the suspect who fired shots into a vehicle and killed a 25-year-old man Sunday night.

Police said they responded to the Dollar General on Central Avenue near Harrison Street at 10:28 p.m for a report of a man shot in the back.

Upon arrival, authorities found Jerry Barnett Jr. was suffering from two gunshot wounds.  He was pronounced death at the scene.

The investigation revealed that Barnett and his roommates had walked out of their apartment and gotten into a vehicle, according to police.  Someone then fired shots into the vehicle, hitting Barnett while he was in the backseat.

The driver of the car fled the scene with Barnett, in the back seat, and drove to the Dollar General, where they called the police, authorities said.

Police say the suspect is described as a black male wearing a bandana over his face.

A motive for the shooting is not yet known.  Police are working to continue investigating the shooting.
