MOUNT AUBURN, OH (FOX19) -

A man jailed on $1 million bond in the alleged beating attack of his girlfriend faces an upgraded charge of murder after she died, Cincinnati police said Tuesday.

Darrell Scott Jr., 29, was arrested Sunday on a felonious assault charge. Cincinnati fire crews responded to a report of an unconscious female inside an apartment, in the 2400 block of Maplewood Avenue just after 10 p.m. Saturday, homicide investigators said.

Firefighters summoned for police when they realized the woman's injuries were from blunt force trauma, said Sgt. Mike Miller.

Yelena Landesman was hurt by "strikes with hands" and was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with "non-survivable injuries," he said, declining to elaborate further on the attack or to say what led up to it.

Landesman died at the hospital late Monday.

Miller described their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend.
