SPRINGFIELD TWP, OH (FOX19) -

The Springfield Township Police Department K9 that was shot during a police pursuit earlier this month is back on duty.

Pako was released by officers to help chase down a suspect on Winton Road. The suspect shot Pako in the shoulder after the K9 bit him.

After shooting Pako, police said the suspect then pointed his gun at officers. The officers fired, shooting the suspect in the back.

The Springfield Township Police Department announced on Thursday that Pako is back on duty and ready to take a bite out of crime!

Pako will be fully equipped with a bullet proof vest provided by Vested Interest in K9s Inc., Springfield PD announced.
