DELHI TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - An intruder woke an 86-year-old homeowner and stole $200 in cash from him in a home invasion robbery early Monday, police said.
The suspect entered a home in the 1000 block of Hickok Lane by sliding open an unlocked kitchen window and climbing in just after 12:30 a.m. Monday, said Lt. Joe Macaluso.
"Unfortunately, in the last month or so, we've had a few evening burglaries where people go through unlocked windows and doors, usually reaching in and grabbing purses and fleeing," he said.
The homeowner, an elderly man who lives alone, woke up.
The suspect stood in his bedroom doorway and threatened to shoot the man if he didn't turn over his money, Macaluso said. He implied that he had a weapon, but one was not seen.
The suspect stole $200 in cash and ran off, Macaluso said. The man is described as white and anywhere from 5' 8 to 6' with a thin build. He wore some sort of a rag over his face to cover it.
The homeowner was shaken up, but was not physically hurt, according to police.
They do not think the homeowner knew the suspect.
Police are not sure if the suspect is linked to other burglaries or car break-ins in the area.
"If anyone who lives in the area saw anything suspicious or had their vehicles rummaged through, give us a call so we can come out and take a look at it," Macaluso said.
"If there is a lesson to be learned here, unfortunately we live in a day and age where people are desperate, so it's important to lock doors and windows."
The incident remains under investigation.
