Child killed, others injured in collision between school bus and garbage truck
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating this morning's fatal school bus crash in northern Virginia, trying to determine just what happened.
One child was killed and 14 other students injured when the bus collided head-on with a garbage truck at a busy intersection.
Police say the bus was apparently trying to make a left turn when it collided with the truck. Both drivers are hospitalized in critical condition, as is one of the children.
Of the other injured children, 12 are being released after treatment for minor injuries. Police and fire officials have refused to speculate on which driver may have been at fault in the accident.
The superintendent of Arlington Public Schools says the bus driver has an "unblemished" record.
