WARREN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

The Warren County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens about the possibility of an AK 47 style assault rifle that was discarded in the area of Landen earlier this month.

Officials said Mohammed Abdou Laghaoui discarded the weapon he is accused of firing at Deputy Katie Barnes and used to shoot his own father in the hand.

It is unknown if the rifle is still loaded with ammunition.

The sheriff’s office is asking the public to be aware of this and keep their eyes open for any suspicious items.

"We are asking the public to be aware of this and keep their eyes open for any suspicious items," sheriff's officials wrote. "The rifle could be concealed in a piece of clothing or just tossed in a flower bed or wooded area."

Officials are asking residents to check around their residences and unlocked sheds to see if the assault rifle is there.

If you have any information you are asked to contact authorities immediately.
