BOONE CO., KY (FOX19) - The man who prompted an eight hour search through Big Bone Lick State Park last week was found deceased in the park Thursday, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
The cause of death for David Lee Rickerson, 62, has not been determined, but authorities say foul play is not suspected.
Officials conducted an additional search around 9 a.m. Thursday. After two and a half hours, Rickerson's body was located in a secluded section of the woods.
Deputies responded to the park last Thursday after shots were fired and a suspicious vehicle parked near a lake. A registration check revealed the registered owner Rickerson, who was listed as 'Missing, possibly suicidal, and possibly armed with a gun" from Hagerstown, Maryland, said Major Tom Scheben, sheriff's spokesman.
A large manhunt followed and officials immediately closed access to the park. Multiple campers voluntarily agreed to leave the premises.
A state medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine Rickerson's exact cause of death.
