CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Billy Hamilton has a facial contusion and is under concussion protocol after he was hit in the face by a fly ball in the first inning of Wednesday's game, Bryan Price announced after the game.

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit a ball to left-center field when left fielder Adam Duvall and Hamilton converged on the ball. The ball seemed to ricochet off Duvall's glove and hit a sliding Hamilton in the face.

The Reds center fielder laid in the grass for several minutes as trainers and players looked over him. He eventually left the field under his own by using the Reds' bullpen doors.

"I think he's done some concussion protocol stuff that hasn't shown anything, but it is something you follow up with in the next day or two," Price said after the game.

The play resulted in a three-run inside-the-park home run for Rizzo as the ball bounced back towards the left field wall.
