Video: Child wanders from NKY day care onto busy road

ALEXANDRIA, KY (FOX19) -

Video shows a child just inches away from the roadway after wandering away from a northern Kentucky day care.

Police say the child allegedly wandered away from the Imaginations Abound Early Learning Center at around 11 a.m. and was walking along Alexandria Pike.

Sgt. Gary Frodge told FOX19 NOW the child managed to get out of a locked door and wandered onto the road.

A motorist was able to stop after seeing the child on Alexandria Pike, according to Sgt. Frodge.

The child was not injured in the incident.

The incident will be referred to the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services to determine if there should be any actions against the center, according to Sgt. Frodge.

The surveillance footage, seen in the video above, shows the child heading away from the day care and walking north along the busy roadway.

"It really is heartbreaking that that little boy got away and got our in the middle of the road like that," said R.D. Howard, who was working on his car at a shop across the street. "We heard the tires squealing on the road then we came out of the garage and the little boy was standing in the road."

Everyone FOX19 NOW spoke to was just thankful the child did not venture further out into the road or perhaps even try to cross it.
