The Cincinnati Bearcats added another football player to a national awards watch list with senior tight end DJ Dowdy being named to the 2016 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List for the top tight end in the nation.
Dowdy, a native of Akron, Ohio, has only missed two games since he embarked on his collegiate career. His more promising season came his junior year with 12 receptions for 104 yards and three touchdowns.
Dowdy collected at least one catch in nine of the 13 games of the 2015 season.
This award is presented by friends of the Mackey family and is awarded annually to the most deserving tight end, in addition to a voting process conducted by the John Mackey Award Selection Committee.
This year the award will be announced on Dec. 7 and the ceremony will take place the following day as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show.
The tight end joins three other Bearcats nominated for respective national awards. Quarterback Gunner Kiel and running back Mike Boone were both named to the Maxwell Award watch list for most outstanding player and center Deyshawn Bond is being considered for the Rimington Award, which is given to the nation's top center.
The Bearcats begin their 2016 campaign at home against UT Martin on Thursday, Sept. 1.
