Family: Infant suffering severe brain trauma after babysitter says he fell from sofa

9-month-old's family speaks out (VIDEO)

HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - The family of a 9-month-old is horrified after their child ended up in the hospital after being in the care of a babysitter.

The child was found last Wednesday unresponsive at a babysitter's house, according to police. The infant was initially rushed to Cincinnati Children's Liberty Campus, but was then transferred to Cincinnati Children's.

Doctors contacted police after taking a look at the child's injuries, stated officials. Surgery had to be performed because of severe head trauma.

The Hamilton Police Department is investigating the incident after relatives say the infant was 'full of life' and now he's trying to hold onto it.

Family members told FOX19 NOW the child has suffered a stroke and park of his skull had to be removed. The family was told the infant fell off of a sofa, but they say they aren't buying that story.

"He has severe brain trauma," said the baby's aunt Jennifer Clark. "I mean he is paralyzed from his left side as of right now, we got the results of another MRI yesterday he's never going to be able to live a normal life like we do. He's going to have to go through extensive therapy and rehab."

The entire family says they are heartbroken from the entire ordeal.

"Its just very sad, its very heart breaking," said Clark. "You never leave a child with someone expecting them to get hurt...especially near death."

FOX19 NOW will update this story as the investigation unfolds.
