WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) – -

Members of the Lakota East High School class of 2013 can't believe the news that broke about their classmate Munir Abdulkader.

Documents unsealed Thursday reveal Abdulkader pleaded guilty to attempting to kill officers and employees of the United States, material support of foreign terrorist organization and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

He graduated from Lakota East in 2013 and was a student at Xavier University from Fall 2013 until Spring 2015, according to school officials.

FOX19 NOW spoke to Jack Murphy, a former classmate of Abdulkader, through Skype. He told us he hadn't seen or heard from him in about three years, but recalls some of the posts he'd seen put up by him.

"He was posting very devout Islamic posts and I never put that together as possible ISIS supporters," stated Murphy.

Murphy said didn't look at the warning signs because it just didn't think it was possible.

"I would never have thought someone who graduated from Lakota East would do that," he said. "I mean, Lakota East is a good school."

Another former classmate Hadeer Jasim, who dated him for a short time, was also very concerned.

"Hearing that Munir did that - it makes me really scared to make friends and actually know people," Jasim stated. "I would never have thought he would be like that because he was the nicest kid ever."

Murphy said he has a message for his former friend.

"Just because you read something on the internet doesn't mean its the right thing to do," Murphy said.  "These people telling you how to believe and whats wrong they are just telling you things you never met these people so how are you letting them influence you that heavily."
