SPRINGFIELD, OH (FOX19) -

An arrest has been made in connection to a Northern Kentucky couple reported missing over the weekend, according to Kentucky State Police.

Robert Jones, 38,  and Crystal Warner, 35, were last seen at a home on Texas Road in Springfield, Ky on Sunday, July 3 at approximately 7 p.m., police said.

In a release from the police department, officials said Craig Pennington, 52, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder in connection the to disappearance of the Jones and Warner

Pennington was arrested Friday on Texas Mackville Road, seven miles east of Springfield and is currently being held in the Marion County Detention Center, according to police.

Investigators said evidence that the couple is deceased has been revealed, but their remains have not been recovered. KSP said the next phase in their investigation is to search for their bodies.

The family says the couple stopped at their rental property on their way home to Florence. It has been reported that Pennington, their tenant, was months behind on rent. The couple's 2012 gray Volkswagon was found Friday morning just before 1:30 a.m. in a gravel lot off exit 125 in Georgetown.

A neighbor FOX19 NOW spoke with said the victims were nice people.

"They were real nice people, neighbors and they got kids playing around and they were so nice," the neighbor said.

Jones's ex wife, with whom he shared three children with, gave FOX19 NOW a heartwrenching statement.

"They both were shot in the head Sunday by the renter of the home, the step son was an eye witness who came forward and reported it!" she said. "I'm on my way to tell my three boys their Daddy is gone."
