FOX19 - You might want to think twice the next time a dog comes in for a kiss.
BMJ Case Reports says a 70-year-old woman from England was infected with "sepsis" likely from her dog an Italian greyhound.
The study says "close petting including licks was reported."
"Septus" which comes from Capnocytophaga canimorsus septicaemia isa bacterium frequently isolated in the oral cavities of dogs and cats. While rare, it can cause an infection after a dog bike.
Researchers say this is a rare unusual case.
The woman infected suffered multiple organ failure, but recovered two later after intensive care and antibiotics.
She is now symptom free.
