UC Students Approve Smoking Restrictions

University of Cincinnati students have voted to approve broad restrictions of smoking on campus. Student government leaders say 62 percent of the nearly six-thousand students who voted endorsed the proposal. The online voting took place over three days this week, as part of student government elections.

It isn't clear whether University of Cincinnati officials will approve the smoking restrictions. If the administration approves, smoking would be banned in most outdoor areas of campus except for open-air parking lots and locations near athletic venues.

The university's current policy bans smoking indoors except in residence halls, which set their own policies. The board of trustees must approve any change to school rules.
