Prime Day is designed to bring new members into the company's loyalty program.
All prime members will be able to shop deals on thousands of items.
Prime Day offers 100,000 deals to members of its $99-a-year Prime loyalty program.
There are a currently around 55 million prime members, and this is the second year of Amazon Prime Day.
Amazon says last year, sales surpassed the previous Black Friday. The company sold 34.4?million items last year on Prime Day — 398 items per second.
Other retailers are looking to keep up. Competitors such as Walmart are responding by offering their own megadeals and free shipping options, which is a sign that there is demand for a shopping day during the usually lackluster retail summer.
