ROSELAWN, OH (FOX19) -

A 9-month-old boy remains in critical condition this morning after he fell into a bucket of water Tuesday, Cincinnati police said.

The baby was unconscious but breathing when he went to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, according to police.

Officers responded to the scene in the 7000 block of Glenmeadow Drive just before 3 p.m.

Lt. Steve Saunders, a police spokesman, said the infant fell into the bucket of water.

"I believe it was in the kitchen area where there was some cleaning being done and there was the water in the bucket that was left and the child was able to access that," said Captain Martin Mack.

The mother had stepped out of the kitchen where the incident happened and the infant was found in the bucket, police said.

The bucket the infant fell into was similar in size to a 5-gallon paint bucket, they said.

CPD Personal Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.

"Anytime there is an injury, or a serious injury to a child our personal crimes unit is the unit that conducts that investigation," said Cpt. Mack.
