MADISONVILLE, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati police are searching for a suspect who they say shot an adult and a 2-year-old in Madisonville Wednesday.

Police dispatched to the shooting on Whetsel Avenue near Chandler Street, just before 6 p.m.

The male victim was transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The toddler went to Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

Witnesses at the scene said they saw the child was in a car seat in the back of the adult victim's car.

Both victims are currently in surgery, according to officials.

They are waiting on updates from both hospitals to provide an update on their condition.

According to police, the suspect fled the scene in a four-door, green sedan with the back windshield possibly shot out.

Both victims were listed in critical condition.

"It's tragic!" stated CPD Assistant Police Chief Paul Neudigate at the scene. "I've got a small child shot,  it's just unacceptable."

There was no immediate word on what led up to the shooting.

Neudigate also added that they are hopeful witnesses will step forward and assist in the investigation so someone can be held accountable.
