Southbound Interstate 71/75 is back open before the Mt. Zion Road exit after a semi fire shut it down for about 40 minutes early Friday, according to Boone County dispatchers.

Traffic remains heavily backed up in the area. Motorists should expect lengthy delays.

The driver reported the back right side of his semi was on fire just before 7 a.m.

He told dispatchers he was hauling corrosive, but not explosive, material.

No chemical leak was detected, according to dispatchers.

The fire was reported knocked down by 7 a.m.

A hazmat-like crew from Boone County Emergency Management responded, dispatchers said.
