MADISONVILLE, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati police said a 5-year-old boy was fatally shot Saturday afternoon.
Sincere Peek was shot in the head inside a home in the 6200 block of Chandler Street shortly after noon, family members said.
The boy's mother and older brother, 12, were home at the time, said Sgt. Mike Miller of the Homicide Unit.
He declined to discuss what led up to the shooting, saying it remained under investigation.
Initial reports indicated the shooting was self-inflicted, according to District 2 police.
Peeks sister, Feneshia McCrary, said her brother was watching cartoons in an upstairs bedroom when their mother heard shots.
The boy's brother carried him downstairs and, with their mother, carried him to a neighbor's front porch, where CPR was started, according to police.
McCray said she does not know who owned the weapon or how her brother was able to gain access to it.
He was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, said police spokesman Lt.. Steve Saunders.
"It's just horrible," Saunders said.
