CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Crystal Palace came into a rocking Nippert Stadium with a sellout crowd of 35,061 fans on Saturday night and beat FC Cincinnati 2-0 in the franchise's first ever international friendly.
Jordan Mutch fired in the first goal of the game in the 8th minute from 25 yards out to make it 1-0 Crystal Palace. Wilfried Zaha would add another in the 63rd minute to make it 2-0.
FC Cincinnati never found the net in front of the largest crowd ever to attend a soccer match in Ohio, but they did impress their opponent from the European Premier League.
"I was surprised how good they were," said Andros Townsend of Crystal Palace. "They held their own and gave us a game."
"It was better than some Premier League crowds," said Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew. "I hope we can come back here. If not next year, soon."
FC Cincinnati now returns to USL play with the next three games at home against three of the top four teams in the East. Up first, FCC will host NY Red Bulls II on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
