WARREN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A Lebanon man admitted Tuesday to providing a deadly dose of fentanyl to his girlfriend while her two children were home in April.

Steven Lay, 35, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, corrupting another with drugs, tampering with evidence and two counts of child endangering.

Lay gave Shawna Mitchell fetanyl and they passed out for a period of time while being responsible for two children, ages 10 and 1, according to a grand jury report.

When Lay awoke, he found Mitchell unconscious in the hallway, police said.

Lay allegedly waited to call 911 until after flushing the remaining heroin down the toilet and hid the paraphernalia under the mattress, according to investigators.

When officials arrived, they were unable to revive Mitchell and she was declared dead at the scene.

Lay will be sentenced at a later date.
