Shake-Up In Jackson Defense

Jackson defense lawyer bows out

One of Michael Jackson's lawyers has quit the defense team. Brian Oxman was seen talking with lead attorney Thomas Mesereau Junior after court in Santa Maria, California. They gave each other a hug. Mesereau announced the departure, but gave no explanation.

Earlier, the defense lost an effort to keep Jackson's ex-wife off the stand. Prosecutors want Debbie Rowe to testify that she was compelled to appear in a video praising Jackson as a good father.

Rowe is the mother of two of Jackson's children. The prosecution says she was told she might lose visitation rights if she didn't take part in the video.

The defense argued that Rowe's testimony would have no relevance to the charges against Jackson, and smacks of desperation by prosecutors.
