HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) – - Hamilton Police on Monday released footage of a fatal, police-involved shooting of a robbery suspect inside Walgreens last week.
The nine-minute video shows the suspect enter the store, hold the pharmacist at knife-point and ultimately confront two officers. The surveillance footage is taken from multiple angles inside the High Street Walgreens.
Hamilton police responded to the robbery about 2:30 a.m. Aug. 22. They said Officers Kevin Ruhl and Danielle Sorber found 34-year-old Kelley Brandon Forte of Cincinnati holding a knife to the pharmacist's throat.
Ruhl, 33, the senior officer with 9 years of patrol service, confronted Forte inside the pharmacy and demanded he "cease, desist and surrender from his felonious conduct," Butler County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser said Monday in a prepared statement.
With knife in hand, he charged toward the officer and then away from the officer, Gmoser said.
"During the close approach by the assailant, the first of three shots were fired by the police officer. The confronting officer fatally shot the assailant preventing potential injury to him and others and preventing the assailant's escape."
Forte was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pharmacist was not hurt, but she was badly shaken, authorities have said.
No charges will be filed in the incident, a Butler County Grand Jury determined.
