Fourth man arrested in alleged buried treasure hoax
A fourth man has been arrested in connection with a scam involving old currency the suspects claimed was buried treasure.
Police in Massachusetts say the men stole the money while doing a roofing job. The fourth man was arrested Saturday at his home in New Hampshire. He's set for arraignment Monday. Two men pleaded innocent Friday to charges that included receiving stolen property and conspiracy. The third surrendered Friday night and is set for arraignment Monday.
The arrests came after the men appeared on national television to talk about the buried treasure, and police noticed how the story was different each time. One suspect allegedly planned to use proceeds to fund his rock band. The cache included 18-hundred bank notes and bills dating from 1899 to 1928.
The currency had a face value of about seven-thousand dollars, but prosecutors say the men had been offered 125-thousand dollars by a collector.
