Bengals cut recent third round pick P.J. Dawson

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - In a surprise move one week before the start of the regular season, the Bengals waived linebacker P.J. Dawson.

A third round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Dawson played in 11 games as a rookie and finished with 12 tackles.

The Bengals drafted Nick Vigil early in the 2016 draft, making Dawson's future in Cincinnati uncertain.

In addition to waiving Dawson, the Bengals also signed quarterback Jeff Driskel off waivers and moved the following players to their practice squad:

            - DE Ryan Brown (rookie, Mississippi State)

            - HB Tra Carson (rookie, Texas A&M)

            - DT David Dean (rookie, Virginia)

            - CB Darius Hillary (rookie, Wisconsin)

            - WR Jake Kumerow (first-year player, Wisconsin-Whitewater)

            - TE Matt Lengel (first-year player, Eastern Kentucky)

            - CB  Tony McRae (rookie, North Carolina A&T)

            - G Alex Redmond (rookie, UCLA)

            - WR Alonzo Russell (rookie, Toledo)

The Bengals have one open spot left on the practice squad.
