Tri-State School Disinvited Speaker

One of Cincinnati's most well-known catholic schools is disinviting its commencement speaker. And that speaker is even one of its most well-known graduates.

Several months ago Summit Country Day school invited Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius to give the commencement address on June fifth. But school officials say her stance on abortion have led them to rescind their invitation.

Sebelius supports abortion rights and recently the school says it received complaints about her appearance from an anti-abortion group. The school is following guidelines from the Roman Catholic church not to honor people who defy the church's moral principles.

Sebelius graduated from Summit Country Day in 1966 and is the daughter of Ohio's former Governor John Gilligan. Summit Country Day says it asked Sebelius because of her successful career in politics.

She is the only daughter of a governor to become a governor. Kathleen Sebelius issued a public statement saying that she was personally disappointed in the decision but said she will continue to remember her days at Summit as some of the proudest in her life.
