Police Increase Patrols on AA Highway

(WILDER, Ky., May 9, 2005) -- For the next week State Police and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement Officers will beef up patrols in Northern Kentucky.

They are on the hunt for drivers speeding along the Double A and the Kentucky 9 Corridor. Officers will not only be watching for speeders they will check safety belt use and checking for drunk drivers.

Last year 8 people died on this section of road and it average one wreck a day along its 147 mile route.

"In other areas of the state we've had  safety blitzes and seat belt use has increased and the number of fatalities has decreased and crashes have decreased", says Captain David Marcum of the Kentucky Department of Vehicle Enforcement.  "It's a win-win situation for everybody."

The safety blitz will last thru Saturday.
