St. Bernard Police have reported 18 vehicle tamperings since Thursday and are encouraging residents to lock their cars at night to discourage thieves.

"What they're going in are the cars that are unsecured, the cars that are unlocked and they're a magnet coming to our community," Saint Bernard Lt. Bill Ungruhe said. "We'd like them to start locking up their doors to send those people on."

The St. Bernard police reported a dozen incidents last Thursday and another six on Saturday. Lt. Ungruhe believes there are two big reasons for criminals to be breaking into cars at this time of year.

"We've seen a lot of folks doing this to support drug habits," Lt. Ungruhe said. "It's that time of the year, crooks are shopping for Christmas and they're shopping in your car so lock them up."

Cars have been a target for criminals in the Greater Cincinnati Area this past week. Norwood Police have posted to their Facebook page the area has seen some vehicle thefts in the past few days.
