WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) -

A shelter-in-place has been lifted for residents in the area of Duff Drive near Joseph James Drive in West Chester after a chemical spill was reported nearby Wednesday.

The chemical lime spill happened at the Superior Environmental Solutions building around 5:45 p.m., according to Township officials. It created a dust cloud over the area.

West Chester Fire Department cleared the chemical spill just before 9 p.m.

Officials say two injuries were reported. Fire Chief Rick Prinz said the two drove through the cloud and they experienced irritation.

Commerce Drive was closed due to chemical spill and businesses in the area are being evacuated according to a West Chest Township official.

The spill also affected properties in the area of south of Muhlhauser to Crescentville, between State Route 747 and International.

Lime can cause skin and eye irritation and can cause respiratory issues, officials say.

The fire department encouraged those in the area to remain indoors with windows and doors closed and HVAC systems off and await further direction.
