Editorial: Walking Dead deaths brutal, but necessary

FOX19 -

Like millions of other people, I waited months and months to find out who Negan killed on "The Walking Dead." And let me tell you, it was brutal.

I won't spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it, but I'll see it could be exactly what the show needs. Morbid I know, but let me explain.

I've watched the show for six seasons like many of you and have seen Rick Grimes from one location to another, only to see his plan for a normal life in the zombie apocalypse fail miserably.

You'll recall, in past seasons Rick has tried to live life normally on Herschel's farm, in a prison, a cannibalistic retreat called Terminus, then finally Alexandria.

All his plans almost immediately blew up in his face.

Enter Negan.

Negan is the personification of evil and doesn't care about what our merry band of survivors have been through. In his mind, it's either kill or be killed.

I think the season seven premiere, which ended in two character deaths, was a little over the top, but necessary.

I know I couldn't continue watching the same stale plot lines every season.

At least Negan throws a little chaos in the mix, kind of a like an apocalyptic version of the Joker, and will make Rick think twice before going through with whatever plan he might come up with.

Negan will force the show to be different and considering it's already been picked up for an eighth season, it's time for something fresh.
