A Kansas man who allegedly forced hostages during a bank robbery to strip to their underwear has been charged. Bennie Herring faces federal charges of armed bank robbery and possessing and discharging a firearm. According to a federal complaint, Herring allegedly bound eleven hostages together with plastic ties, and forced an assistant bank manager to put money into a backpack. Prosecutors say Herring later fired two shots at police from a van before ordering a bank employee to drive to a local airport. At the airport, police opened fire and hit Herring several times. No one else was hurt. Herring is still in the hospital in serious condition with several bullet wounds. He'll be arraigned as soon as he's physically able to appear in court.
