LOVELAND, OH (FOX 19) -

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is investigating after a racially charged message was found on the Little Miami Scenic Trail just north of downtown Loveland.

The Loveland Police Department was made aware of the issue and passed it on to the ODNR. In a statement to FOX19 NOW. the ODNR said it was made aware of the problem last Friday, covered the graffiti, and the vandalism is under investigation.

"On Friday, Nov. 25, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) was notified by the Loveland Police Department about graffiti located on the Little Miami Scenic Trail. ODNR personnel have covered the graffiti and the vandalism is under investigation.

ODNR asks that if anyone sees suspicious activities or vandalism taking place, to contact #ODNR, a non-emergencyphone line."

The message, that has since been covered, read, "Obama the N----- king."

"Disappointing, I don't know if this could be something done by the youth or an adult but regardless of who did it and who they referenced, very disappointing," said Mark Folchi, a runner of the trail.

Folchi said he believes a younger generation has taken pranks too far, especially with racially charged hate messages.

"My father would tell you that his blood was Italian but the blood that pumped it was American. Never would you expect...myself, my brothers, or my sisters to act in such a manner," he said.

Some of those FOX19 NOW spoke with thought the painting was meant to resemble "Pepe the Frog," which has become a symbol for hate.

The ODNR is still investigating this vandalism and asks anyone with information to call them at 614-265-6817.
