Woman arrested after officers find nine people crowded into car
A California woman has been arrested for investigation of child cruelty after the California Highway Patrol found nine people crammed inside her car, including two children in the trunk.
Lavern Dunlap was pulled over Friday night. Another driver had reported seeing a woman closing the trunk of her Toyota Corolla with two children inside as the vehicle sat parked on the shoulder. The officer discovered a 15-year-old boy and a ten-year-old girl in the trunk, four children in the back seat, an adult in the front passenger seat with a child on her lap and Dunlap behind the wheel. The officer says no one was wearing a seat belt.
Dunlap was booked on suspicion of child cruelty and was released. She is scheduled to appear in court next month.
