CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

An East Price Hill man is accused of cutting an off-duty Cincinnati police officer in the arm over the weekend.

Darryl Smith, 27, is held at the Hamilton County jail on charges of felonious assault and obstructing official business. His bond was set at $26,000 Monday.

He was booked in Sunday morning, hours after police say he ran from an officer when the officer observed him about to engage in a fight on Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati, court records show.

Smith stabbed an officer in the left arm, a criminal complaint reads.

According to our news partners at the Cincinnati Enquirer, the off-duty officer was working a security detail nearby and tried to break up a knife fight on the square about 2 a.m.

The fight broke out after two groups got into an altercation on the square, the newspaper reports.

Two people were hospitalized for treatment of non-life threatening knife wounds to their backs, a police spokesman told the Enquirer.

The officer also is expected to recover.

Police said they recovered two knives.
