Summer Driving

Routine vehicle maintenance can save you money

The summer driving season combined with soaring gas prices could force Americans to dig into their pockets more deeply than ever. The Alliance to Save Energy says simple maintenance on a vehicle can save drivers substantial amounts of gas money. If tires are inflated properly, mileage improves by more than three percent. The alliance says four percent can be saved by simply having the vehicle tuned up. You come out a whopping 40 percent ahead if you replace a faulty oxygen sensor. And the Alliance warns against speeding, saying each mile per hour over 60 is the equivalent of paying an extra ten cents per gallon of gas.
