FOX19 -

You may have heard of the term "Pregnancy Brain" and now research is providing more evidence that the structure of a woman's brain actually does change during a woman's first pregnancy.

Researchers in the Netherlands say new mothers' brains are more efficiently wired in areas that help them respond to their infants' needs.

Those changes are believed to last for up to 2 years.

In the study, researchers scanned the brains of women who had never conceived before, and again after they gave birth for the first time.

The results were: loss of gray matter in several brain areas involved in a process called social cognition. which is the ability to register and consider how other people perceive things.
