CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Anana, the Zoo's new female, and long-time-resident male Little One are beginning to get to know each other.

Since Anana's arrival a few weeks ago, the two bears had been close enough to smell each other,  but Tuesday was the first time they had actual contact.

Anana, 16, is here on loan from a group that manages the polar bear population in North American Zoos.

If all goes well with 27-year-old Little One, she could have cubs in the fall.

Anana was part of a three polar bear exchange involving zoos in Buffalo and Madison Wisconsin.

Cincinnati’s female polar bear, Berit, is now in Madison after 16 years here.

Anana arrived here from Buffalo.

Sakari, traveled to Buffalo’s zoo from Madison.
