`Monty Python's Spamalot' wins Tony for best musical

"Monty Python's Spamalot" is Broadway's best musical. The irreverent romp celebrating the British comedy troupe wins the Tony award for best musical and another for director Mike Nichols. The former stand-up comic was at a loss for words when he accepted his award. Nichols said he had forgotten what he intended to say, but went on to thank the company and Python's Eric Idle, "from whom all blessings flow."

Sara Ramirez, from "Spamalot," won the honor for featured actress in a musical. Billy Crystal won the award for special theatrical event for his one-man show "700 Sundays." He cracked that he wanted "to thank everybody in behalf of the entire cast."

"Doubt" was named best play.
