Babe Ruth Contract

Babe Ruth contract goes on the auction block

A contract that some believe caused Boston Red Sox fans 86 years of frustration is going on the auction block today. Sotheby's auction house in New York is selling a five-page typed contract that sent Babe Ruth to the Yankees from the Red Sox in 1919.

Some Red Sox fans say the deal spawned "The Curse of the Bambino." After Ruth went to New York, the Yankees won 26 world titles while the Red Sox didn't win one until last year. The auction house says the contract is in excellent condition, and experts expect it to go for at least a half million dollars.

Proceeds from the sale will go to America's Second Harvest -- a charity that provides food for the needy.
