Tropical Storm Watch

Tropical storm watch issued for Louisiana to Florida Panhandle

A tropical storm watch has been issued for central Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. Tropical Storm Arlene is the Atlantic hurricane season's first named storm.

It's centered about ten miles south-southeast of the western tip of Cuba with maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour. Forecasters say Arlene could cross over western Cuba as it moves into the Gulf of Mexico.

The storm is expected to drop as much as five to ten inches of rain -- possibly causing flooding in western Cuba and tornados in southwest Florida and the Florida Keys.

A tropical storm warning is in effect in parts of Cuba as well as the Dry Tortugas, a cluster of islands about 70 miles west of Key West.
