CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Cincinnati Zoo's beloved baby hippo is gaining weight steadily and starting to show more personality each day.
The zoo said Fiona is up to 68 pounds, but has a long way to go before she reaches her adult weight of approximately 3,000 pounds.
In the latest video update, Fiona steps on a scale before a handler gives her a bigger bottle.
On Thursday, Fiona gave her fans a glimpse of her aquatic moves. An underwater camera captured the premature hippo romping and splashing in the zoo's nursery pool.
"She seems to enjoy the freedom and space of the larger pool and gets an opportunity to practice all of the aquatic skills she will need to have mastered before she is reunited with her parents," her caretaker Wendy wrote in a blog post Monday.
Fiona is the first Nile hippo born at the zoo in 75 years. She was born in January at 29 pounds, well below the usual weight. After a few health setbacks, Fiona is just under 60 pounds and showing "consistent forward progress," the zoo says.
