Shopping Mall Plot
Suspect in Ohio mall plot seeking to have statements barred from trial
An immigrant accused of working with terrorists who wanted to blow up an Ohio shopping mall wants statements he made to investigators banned from his upcoming trial.
An attorney for the Somali man says Nuradin Abdi was arrested for no reason and pressured to answer investigators' questions. The lawyer says his client believed that if he cooperated with investigators, including telling them what he knew about a member of al-Qaida, he'd be allowed to go home.
Agents told the man they were arresting him last November on immigration violations, but didn't specify which laws.
