Runaway boxcar carrying lumber strikes two vehicles
Two children were taken to the hospital Tuesday after a runaway boxcar loaded with lumber struck their van.
Authorities say the children are both under ten and were taken to Children's Hospital in Cincinnati with moderate injuries. One of them was taken by Air-Care. Their identities and conditions weren't available.
Warren County Emergency Management director Frank Young says the train stopped in Mason around 5:30 this afternoon. The boxcar broke free and rolled north for about five miles between Mason and Lebanon. Young says its brakes might have failed.
Authorities say the boxcar struck the van and eventually hit a second vehicle. No other injuries were reported. Young says the train car rolled for at least ten minutes before it derailed.
