Security camera catches suspicious visitor at Mason home

MASON, OH (FOX19) -

A home security camera caught someone walking up to a front door of a Mason home not once, but twice, in the dead of night over the weekend.

The homeowner, Ian Hummel, said he can't help but wonder what could have been.

"Luckily I was here, and I wasn't somewhere else and my wife and kids weren't here alone," he said.

Late Friday night, his security camera made two recordings.

The first one, a person in a hooded sweatshirt runs up, and appears to check the door handle before taking off. Then about 20 minutes later it happens again.

The second time, the unidentified person sticks around and looks to canvas the home.

"That's what's the most unsettling thing about it. Everybody I've talked to, friends, family, neighbors, that's the most unsettling thing. Not only once, but then twice," Hummel said.

Hummel said a neighbor saw the person taking off and jumping a fence.

"To actually see somebody come up, it's a little frightening, disturbing," he said.

Hummel said he has filed a report with Mason police.

"You hope it's just a kid who's trying to play a joke.  But in the back of you're head you're always wondering what could it be," he said.
